[26 Apr 2009| 07:22am ] _lythande [ mood | hungry ] Amazing how a little investment can yield phenomenal results! We get most of our assignments, over 95% I'd say, from one agency. And of those assignments, the majority have always been camera audits. Up until recently, we were limited in how many of these assignments we could take. In other words, when we reached the limit, the choices would automatically disappear from our selection list, whether other shoppers had gotten them or not. It took trial and error over several months, and some email queries, before we discovered this, of course. Then we switched from dial-up to broadband. That was a tremendous relief in and of itself, since that meant I could get to bed by midnight, even on those days we had done 6-8 camera audits. No more staying up until the crack of dawn to edit, re-name, compress, upload, and associate all those dozens of low res pics. Then, because I was tired of hauling the laptop along on those long days, because our camera maxed out at 168 pics, I gambled and purchased a 2 gig memory card for our camera, about $30 worth. We started using the broadband nearly two months ago. No change with that agency. We started using the new memory card about three weeks ago. When I put it in the camera, it maxed out the number-of-pics meter (999). Setting it to the highest resolution the meter changed to 682. I still thought that that was more than ample. Then we did another six-shop audit day. I took over 100 pics on the first two locations before downloading the camera and the meter moved from 682 to 681. Guess you could say that meter was maxed out too. But aside from the convenience to us, it is apparent that the clients are more than happy with this change as well. Earlier this week, this agency posted the selection list of camera audits that we favor. I started filling up our calender. When I got to 11 each, the list was still there. 12, 13, 14,... It was amazing, our limits were gone! I finished up that morning with 22 shops for me and 17 for my husband, a total of 39, where before we could never get more than 22. This out of a list over 60-65 locations, means we snagged two-thirds of the available locations in closest proximity!!! This brought our net expectations to over $700, in pay and reimbursements, for a three-week period of primarily weekend only shops (seven of the 39 on week days). So, clearly, if you are into camera audits, invest in a new memory card for your camera, if it didn't come with one at least 1 gig or more in size. Take the highest resolution photos you can (1600x1200), compress them below 1 meg before transmission, and upload via broadband. I'm willing to bet your opportunities will expand right along with your resolution sizes. If you need software, and can't afford the numero uno name brands, I use Paint Shop Pro to convert BMPs to JPGs and do editing and gamma corrections, I use a simple JPEG Optimizer from xat.com for compression, and also have Gimp for alternative editing. You will find the Paint Shop Pro at oldversion.com and Gimp at gimp.org. 1 comment | post comment companies that do hotel shops?
